J.P. Gatto, P.A.

J.P. spent the first part of his career at a major law firm in St. Paul, representing businesses and insurers in cases involving personal injury and commercial loss. His clients spanned industries, from construction to aviation to insurance, and his practice included all phases of litigation, from intake to investigation to depositions, trials, and appeals. After nearly 15 years of practice, J.P. decided it was time for a change and joined Swor & Gatto to focus exclusively on representing injured victims rather than the insurance companies.

J.P.’s breadth of experience has resulted in a unique understanding of the legal industry from both sides of the aisle. This experience is only enhanced by his significant trial practice.

He is a veteran of numerous jury trials involving catastrophic and life-changing injuries in courts across the country. He has examined and cross-examined experts in the fields of mechanical engineering, metallurgy, aviation science, engine mechanics, psychology, life care planning, vocational rehabilitation, neurology, physical rehabilitation, burn propagation, and other specialties.

His understanding of industry in combination with his familiarity and comfortability in the courtroom, makes him a rare attorney who has skills to negotiate and advocate outside of the courtroom while also possessing the ability to take a case to trial if need be.

J.P. has represented individuals significantly injured by defective snowmobiles, medical devices, escalators, and individuals involved in significant motor vehicle accidents. He has also defended major aviation manufacturers, agricultural machinery manufacturers, and consumer product manufacturers in product liability actions. He is also active in the construction field, representing clients in commercial and insurance coverage disputes.  J.P. is also experienced in the field of bad faith insurance litigation and has presented numerous times on the topic at various conferences and seminars.

J.P. is a highly skilled litigator with over a decade of experience litigating complex and high-value cases across the country. His trial experience is second to none and will serve as an enormous asset to Swor & Gatto’s clients.

J.P.’s skills have been recognized by his peers as he has been named a Super Lawyer since 2014.

Educational Background

J.P. graduated with honors from both St. Olaf College and Hamline University School of Law.  During his time in school J.P. had the opportunity to study in many different countries and regions – Ecuador, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Northern Europe, Scandinavia – exposing him to a variety of different cultures, lifestyles, personalities, and world views that has shaped the way he interacts and practices.

Interests & Philanthropy

J.P. and his wife are active members in the community supporting various organizations including the St. Paul Children’s Hospital, the Minnesota Children’s Museum, their local elementary school, and a variety of other organizations.  J.P. is an avid downhill skier and golfer, and a tortured Minnesota sports fan.
